Animal Welfare Party is encouraged by its results in the Scottish Parliament and England Local Elections which took place on Thursday, 7th May.
In the Edinburgh & Lothians East Region in the Scottish Parliament Elections, AWP received 2032 votes / 0.6%.
Despite an extremely limited campaign budget and almost no media coverage, the party ranked 9th out of 22 parties contesting the region.
In Local Elections in England the party’s results were:
- Gavin Ridley, Branksome West & Penn Hill ward, Poole Town Council 365 votes / 5% of votes cast
- Mike Kelson, Lavender Fields ward, Merton, London 108 votes / 1.3% of votes cast
- Jacqui Cook, Hemingford Grey & Houghton ward, Huntingdonshire 96 votes / 2.3% of votes cast
- Sasha Jolliffe Yasawi, Winton East, Charminster West & Talbot Woods ward, Poole Town Council 182 votes / 2.4% of votes cast
- Paul Graham, Bicester West ward, Cherwell District Council 89 votes / 1.7% of votes cast
In each of these wards, Animal Welfare Party candidates stood for the first time and, the party believes, made a small piece of history by being the first to centre their campaigns around the need to include animal rights in our political decision-making.
Animal Welfare Party thanks all those voting for AWP, all those supporting candidates in person and online and its member and supporter base for helping to make these candidacies possible.
