Local Elections, May 2023

Local Elections, England & Northern Ireland, May 2023

Local elections took place in England on 4th May 2023 and in Northern Ireland on 18th May 2023.

These included district councils, unitary authorities, and directly-elected mayors in England, and all local councils in Northern Ireland.

Animal Welfare Party stood two candidates in these elections; Gavin Ridley in Alderney and Bourne Valley ward, Dorset and Jane Smith in Smallwood parish, Cheshire.

In Alderney and Bourne Valley, Dorset, Gavin Ridley received 239 votes (2.9%).

In Smallwood, Cheshire, Jane Smith received 69 votes (6.9%) and was just 4 votes away from being elected.

This was the party’s first time standing in both areas and, we believe, shows great promise for future elections.

Unfortunately, AWP did not receive any expressions of interest from Members interesting in standing for the party in local elections in Northern Ireland so the party did not have a presence in these elections.

Our heartfelt thanks to all those voting for and supporting Gavin Ridley and Jane Smith in so many ways in these elections.
