AWP Holds Third Demo outside Manchester Airport Protesting Involvement in Animal Testing

Animal Welfare Party has today held its third peaceful demonstration outside Manchester Airport protesting against its involvement in the trade of flying live animals into the UK for use in animal testing.

Protestors braved the January wind, rain and hail to stand with banners reading ‘Animals Shipped to Testing Labs Through Manchester Airport’ and ‘Manchester Airport Complicit in Animal Testing’.

The demo came as a related petition calling on Manchester Airport Group to stop accepting Air France animal cargo flights bringing animals such as dogs and primates into the UK destined for research laboratories reached over 700 signatures.

“We had great visibility today and and a very clear message” said organiser and AWP Deputy Leader, Jane Smith “We had numerous drivers passing by who gave us honks and thumbs up which helped keep our spirits up on a very cold and wet morning and shows us our message is hitting home. We’ll keep highlighting Manchester Airport’s cargoes of live animals destined for onward journeys to UK research labs for as long as they keep allowing them.”

The related petition to Manchester Airports Group is planned to be presented on World Day for Animals in Laboratories in April this year, a year on from AWP’s first demonstration outside the airport. Signatures can still be added to the petition here.

Plans for a fourth demonstration outside the airport are underway.
